James Alexander McMINN Family

14. viii. James Alexander McMINN was born circa 1850, a son of James McMINN and Mary SWAN. He died 26 Oct 1916 in Lochmaben, Scotland. He married (1) Ann IMRIE 27 Nov 1865 in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. She was born circa 1843, and died 1888 in Lochmaben, Scotland. He married (2) Elizabeth THOMSON 1889 in Dumfiresshire, Scotland.

  41. i. William McMINN was born 27 Sep 1866, and died circa 1945. He married Jane BROWN 13 Apr 1886, daughter of Charles BROWN and Jane SWAN. She was born circa 1862.

Children of William McMINN and Jane BROWN are:
        i. Annie McMINN was born 1887; married John "Jock " McEWAN.
          ii. Charles McMINN was born 1891; died 25 Sep 1915, France. He was a talented designer at the Rosefield tweed mill, which folded between the wars, during the recession. Great things had been expected of Charles, but he died in WWI on Saturday, 25th September 1915. According to the memorial in Dumfries, and on Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France, he was a Corporal in the King's Own Scottish Borderers. However, his friend Jock Gibson, who did come back, said Charles was a sergeant when they went “over the top”.
          iii. Jean or Jane McMINN was born 1892; married John "Jock" McNAUGHT. They had a large family, possibly 12 or 13 children.
        iv. James McMINN was born 1894; died Friday 5 May 1916, Hainault area, Belgium during WWI. He was a Private in the 6th Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers, like his brother Charles. He is buried in Tancrez Farm Cemetery.
        96. v. William McMINN was born 1896, and died October 1979, in Newbury Hospital, Berks. He married Elsie COX 28 Sep 1925 at St. Cuthbert's Church, Dormanstown, Parish of Kirkleatham. William was cremated at Reading Crematorium. William and Elsie had three children.
        97. vi. Robert McMINN was born 1 Apr 1899, and died 23 Mar 1972 in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. He married Henrietta Johnstone McKEAND. She was born 14 Jun 1899. They had three children.
          vii. Samuel McMINN was born circa 1905; married (1) Janet JOHNSTONE; married (2) Helen THORBURN.
    42. ii. James Alexander McMINN was born 06 Sep 1868. He was a coal merchant of the Stoop. He lived at the Old Sun Inn, Annan Road, near Brasswell, for many years. His son, Alec, carried on the business of coal merchant.

Child of James Alexander McMINN is:
          i. Alec McMINN carried on his father's business of coal merchant and lived for many years at the old Sun Inn on Annan Road, Brasswell. When he retired, he sold the Sun Inn, with its land, maybe an acre or two.
    iii. Robert McMINN was born 10 Nov 1870. He was living with his brother, David, and his family, as a boarder at 7 Queen Street, Lochmaben, Dumfriesshire during the 1901 census. He was 31 and a carriage hirer.
    43. iv. Thomas "Tam" McMINN was born 2 Aug 1873 in Lochmaben, Scotland. He married Esther CARRUTHERS. During the 1910 census Thomas MCMINN and his family were living at 13 Mill Road, Troqueer, Kirkcudbrightshire. He was a carter.

          i. Thomas “Tam” McMINN.
        98. ii. Abraham “Abbie” Gentleman McMINN. He was named after his uncle, Abraham “Abram” GENTLEMAN. He had four children.
          iii. Esther McMINN was born 1896.
          iv. Jane McMINN was born 1897.
          v. James McMINN was born 1899
          vi. Mary McMINN was born 1900.
    44. v. David McMINN was born circa 1877. He married Agnes Jane BELL. She was born circa 1876 in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. During the 1901 census, David was a freestone quarryman, residing at 7 Queen St., Lochmaben. Living with David and his wife Agnes was their child, Robina (3), a stepson John BELL (9), and David's brother, Robert McMINN (31) a carriage hirer.

        i. Robina McMINN was born 1897, Lochmaben, Scotland.
    45 vi. Jessie Ann McMINN was born 30 Jan 1880 in Lochmaben, Scotland, and died Oct 1971. She married Abraham “Abram” GENTLEMAN in 1900 in Gorbals, Lanark, Scotland. He was born circa 1877 in Clahmannanshire, Scotland. They resided at 16 Roseberry Street in Hutchesontown, Lanark (part of Glasgow) during the 1901 census. Abram was a draper. Jessie, Abraham, and Douglas departed Glasgow aboard “The Calendonia” on 13 Jan 1906 and arrived at Ellis Island on 23 Jan 1906. The manifest lists their destination as Boston and they were going to join Mr. Ferarra [Ferrari], 105 Union Park Dr, Boston, MA.

Jessie was employed as a nurse in a Boston hospital and it is believed Abram was either a repairman or a meter reader for a power company in Boston.

          i. Douglas GENTLEMAN was born 17 Jun 1905 in Scotland; died May 1981, Boston, Suffolk Co, MA. He lived in Boston and was business manager at the Leigh Clinic. Douglas had three children.
    46 vii. Mary McMINN was born 1883. She married Luigi "Louis" FERRARI 1901 in Kelvin, Lanark, Scotland. Louis was Swiss. On 23 Jan 1906, they were living at 105 Union Park Dr, Boston, MA.

Children of Mary McMINN and Luigi FERRARI are:
        99. i. Judith J. FERRARI. At the time of her death on 17 Feb 2004 she was residing in Dedham, Suffolk Co, MA . She married James C. TARIS. He was born 25 Oct 1895, and died 06 Feb 1998. Judith is buried in Newton Cemetery, Newton Center, Suffolk Co, MA. They had three children.
        100. ii. Cecil James “James or Jim” FERRARI was born 7 May 1908, and died 1 Sep 1997. He married Donna GROSS. She was from Ithaca, Gratiot Co, MI. They lived in Taylor, Wayne Co, IM and had two children.
     Children of James McMINN and Elizabeth THOMSON are:
    47 viii. George McMINN was born 31 Mar 1890 in Lochmaben, Scotland, and died Mar 1977 in Pasadena, Los Angeles Co. CA. His wife's name was Bessie. She was born 1895, and died 1976. George first came to Nova Scotia when he was 19, in 1909, and then on to Boston ending up in Lansing, MI. They had two children.

        ii. Anona Agnes McMINN
      ix.  Duncan McMINN was born 1892, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. He lived at Auldgirth and became blind later in life.
    48. x. 48. Jean McMINN was born 1895 in Lochmaben, Scotland. She married HANNAY.

        i. Jack HANNAY
          ii. Nancy HANNAY
          iii. Maimie HANNAY
          iv. Jean HANNAY
      xi. Samuel McMINN was born 1897, Lochmaben, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. Samuel was shell shocked in World
War I and was hospitalised in the Crichton Royal in Dumfries. He was able to leave but decided to remain on the grounds as a gardener.
      xii. Lillias McMINN was born circa 1904; married James STARKEY. They lived in Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire, Scotland.
    49. xiii Agnes McMINN was born 17 Apr 1906 in Lochmaben, Scotland, and died 02 Aug 1987. She married Andrew Beck CAMPBELL. He died Feb 1988. Agnes's mother, Elizabeth, died in 1910, aged 46, when she was 4 and her father, James, died 26 Oct 1916 aged 66, when she was 10. As a result, she was mostly brought up with her older brothers' families.

Child of Agnes McMINN and Andrew CAMPBELL is:
          i. James Alexander CAMPBELL, died 19 Jun 1999, Dumfriesshire, Scotland.
